Reading the hunt guide it explains that leftover portions of the animal after the field dressing can be left at the site of harvest but recommends burying to help limit spread of cwd. What is the exact rules regarding depth? Also on public land I didn't think we were allowed to disturb the environment like that?

Are you referring to the following found on page 41 of the 2021-22 Tennessee Hunting and Trapping Guide?
No person shall damage or remove any trees or
other plants, dirt, gravel or sod from any wildlife
management area or other Tennessee Wildlife
Resources Agency-controlled lands without specific
authorization.

Interesting question regarding what is actually allowed on public land and on the depth to bury that would deter varmits from sniffing the pile out and digging it up.

Seems like a person could bury without damaging or removing any of the items listed in the hunting guide. I guess it depends on what is considered to "remove". I'd consider digging up dirt and replacing as not the same as "removing" it and that it does not damage the dirt. When it comes to laws and law enforcement, common sense does not always apply so who knows?

Burying, unless really deep, isn't going to do any good. Scavengers will find it and dig it up, unless deep enough they cannot smell it. The scientists say the prions last in the soil for an incredibly long time anyway, so chances are even if you bury it, it will still be there to be later unearthed.

There was talk of an incenerator being placed in west TN...haven't heard anything lately....Doesn't matter...CWD is here to stay....it will spread all over the state...we'll see less older deer...we'll kill deer..we'll eat deer....life will go on...
