Hey guys....I have never been on a forum before, so I hope my internet etiquette is acceptable! I am not beating around the bush, and I realize some might resent my lack of introduction and my forwardness. I hope you guys will understand when you read why I am on here in the first place. My dad was in an accident 30 years ago, broke his back, and was confined to a wheelchair. He has been very active and LOVES chasing turkey. Today marks his 30 year anniversary of the accident. He wanted to celebrate it on the ski slopes on a device called a mono-ski, but that did not work out. SO...I hope to surprise him with a turkey hunt. We struggle to get him on public land birds here in Arkansas and have had a couple private land hunts in Tennessee fall thru. Any help would be appreciated more than you could ever imagine. I am not wanting to hunt, just assist my dad. If you have a lot of turkey on private land and would be interested in sharing one or two, I would love to speak with you and fill you in on details. We hunt hard. I pull him thru the woods in a rickshaw and piggyback him across creeks, ditches, etc. and crawl under barb wire fences so don't think terrain is an issue. We just need turkeys without the intrusion of other hunters, our main struggle on public land. I am a pastor and he is on disability, so paid hunts are out of the question. Thanks so much for even reading this far into such a long first post!

I cannot help you out here, but I do know that Alabama has some sections of their WMA's set aside strictly for disabled. It might be worth giving them a call. I know it is public land but at least it is limited to who can hunt it.

Thanks AT Hiker...we went to a similar setup last year in Mississippi at Noxubee NWR. Awesome refuge manager there that was very accommodating. The problem was a lack of law enforcement, some disrespectful folks just hunted it and ignored the signs. So we got messed up by folks that could walk the other 45,000 acres! Some bad apples...you know how the saying goes. I won't let one bad experience deter me too bad though from some of the disabled areas on WMA land. If you did you would have to quit turkey hunting all together! If anyone knows any specific areas for disabled on public land that has lots of turkey....I would be much obliged!!

If I had the private land to hunt, I would be glad to help.... but I hunt 99% public land... I admire you for your dedication and best of luck on your search.

Welcome to the site and hope to see you posting some stories and pics of successful hunts.

Check with the TWRA,I'm sure they could help you.I believe Cordell Hull has places to hunt for handicapped hunters! That is in Jackson and Smith county!

Thanks brother. They do have a wheelchair hunt at Cordell hull...two birds, either sex, bonus birds! Dad hasn't killed a turkey in 5 years (we have lost count of the super close calls!) so a hen better not have a beard, half-strut, or try to gobble. Lol! I will give them a call and check it out. Many times places like that are permanent blinds and more like deer hunting. If a bird gobbles and we can't move on it that would be torture! Thanks for the heads up...keep the ideas coming guys. I want to make this 30 year anniversary of his a blow-out!

the wheelchair zone on Cordell hull is on roaring river where I was born and raised. I don't know how many people actually hunt there though. I know I hardly ever see anyone. I can tell you that it is covered up with deer and turkey and they had corn planted all around it this year. Years ago it was a campground/park and had a boat ramp. For some reason they closed it and let it grow up. You can still see the buildings standing in the thickets and there are paved roads going all through it.

PAVED ROADS with turkeys??? sounds like a wheelchair hunter's dream! I can pull dad in the rickshaw all day long on pavement. :) That is some helpful info...any idea of the acreage of wheelchair zone? I will be calling them tomorrow if my schedule allows it. Thank again!

I wish I could help u out with a place to hunt but i have to hunt public land also. I don't know much about them or how to contact them but there used to be an organization called wheeling sportsmen that would put on hunts on different private farms that would let them use there land. Good luck I hope someone will let u take him hunting.

I would guess around 200 acres of flat land and that many more of steep hills. could be off some but I know it is a fairly big piece of ground
