I was bush hogging a neighbors field this afternoon and literary had a triangle area left that was maybe 12' when I made a pass and started turning around to see a hen fly out. I missed the nest by less than a foot. Just stopped right there and got off to count and she has 13 eggs. Hopefully she'll come back. Ran over another nest along the fence on the first pass but only had 4 eggs so thinking it had been abandoned or something had found it.

Normally when the nest is left that exposed it is easy prey for predators. But hopefully the hen will come back and have a successful hatch.

That's inevitable when bushhogging this time of year. Unless I absolutely can't for some reason, I always wait until july-ish to bushhog.

I try not to either but I do my neighbors field twice a year when he asks. There's more growth around the eggs than the pic appears so hoping nothing gets them and she came back.
