Finished late lunch and headed back out. Cruised in the truck and found 2 lb's all by themselves a half mile away. Both were just feeding, so we had time to make the stalk to about 125 yards. Tucked into a thicket and started the calling sequence. After about 10 min, one answered. After a few more minutes, both were fired up and coming. They hung up at 75 yards, but decided to commit after a series of jake yelps and fighting purrs. Prob clutch mates from 3 years ago.
My bird was 22.4lbs, 9 7/8 beard, but crazy thick, 1 1/16 spurs
My friends was 20.0lbs, 10 in beard, 1 in spurs.
Legs needed a break today after yesterday's haul, only put 4.5 miles on the boots today.
Oh, these were new birds, roamed in from another place. Hadn't seen a bird on this property this year.
Not many hens around anywhere I've been. Not many jennies either.
