Well, I got out this morning before daylight thinking that the bad weather last night would give the nut buzzards lockjaw, but since it's my first morning to have the opportunity to go I figured what the heck. Just as the sun was coming up and I had already been trying to locate some birds a crow sounded off right across the slew from me. Then two gobblers sounded off right below the crow! With my heart beating a mile a minute I tried like crazy to get around the bluff and over to the other side of this slew without being noticed. Lo and behold about half way around it I busted one off the roost......Another long-beard. I gave it about 20 minutes to calm down before I got up and moved again. When I stood back up to start moving again I could see over the bluff just enough to see a white head about 75 yards below me on the lake bed. I crouched down and moved closer to the edge and there two nice long-beards down on the lake bed below me. I couldn't really do anything but try and get around to their side of the slew at that time. By the time I got around they had disappeared and I only heard them one other time way down at the next slew. As I started walking up the next hill over (at about 7:30) I busted about 15 hens off the roost so I just called it a day right there. Just wanted to get that off my chest. I hope some of you had more luck than me this morning.
