I know these are popular with a lot of turkey hunters. Bass Pro Shops has them in their ad for $140 (regular price $240).

They are comfortable, but the sizing is screwy, they leak rapidly, and they are hot as fire. They were the best of any factory boots I have tried, but that isn't saying much.

I have yet to find a truly decent pair of snake boots, therefore I shelled out some serious coin for a pair or russell's this year and will see if they live up to the hype.

Agreed. From everything I've heard (from folks that wear 'em) they live up to every single bit of the hype and you'll be perfectly tickled with them. I've been close to ordering twice over the years but dang...thats a lot of cheese for boots. Let us know how they work out for you.

I've had nothing but the best of luck from Danner Pronghorn Snake Boots. Maintenance is the key. Use a good leather preservative on them and they'll last for a long time.

Any boot should last more than 2 weeks, and not need leather treatment, that is the issue with Danner's. They never lasted long enough for the leather to even get broken in.

X2, my good friend that I turkey hunt with every year has an older pair (pre GORE TEX model purchased in 2000) and he really likes them. He has worn them on most every turkey hunt for the past 12 years in a lot of varied terrain in TN, KS and SD. He has sent them back twice to have some minor restitching done. He said "the only downside to his exact pair is they are waterproof as leather can be." As stated before, his are NOT GORE-TEX lined which he prefers (lighter, not as hot) for his typical terrain (middle TN with some streams, but no bottomland/swampland). He said if he hunted in a big bottom or standing water very often, he would wear some type of rubber knee boot or accept the fact his feet would be damp/wet at times.

I'm a grange fan for $60. I like the ankle support of snake boots, but they leak quick and are supper hot. I'm not afraid of snakes and I've never run across an aggresive snake in the woods I hunt.

yeah that is the issue i have had with them, they are too hot and tend to be somewhat stiff so if i sit for a while they make my feel fall asleep due to the stiffness.

Danner makes a fine boot though.

If i hunted in bama or MS more i would have some without question, just never have needed them for the places i hunt in TN.

I'm talking years, not weeks, SM. As far as the leather conditioning, I do it annually. Just because you don't like the Danners doesn't mean that everyone else should dislike them also. I can't help it if you got a bad pair.

I literally went through 3 pair in the month of April 2 years ago, and finally just gave up. I sent the 4th pair back to Cabelas at the end of the season and started last year's season with a brand new pair. They lasted until about the 3rd week, sent them back and got another new pair which started leaking the last Saturday of the season. They are in the closet right now as back ups, since I didn't send them back. So I have a decent sample size to form a judgement by, add to that the 5-6 folks who I know here in TN that wear them have all had the same issues.

I love Danner boots, and have Grouse hunted in the same pair for the past 3 seasons. Anyone who knows much about Grouse hunting knows that a pair of boots is going to be beaten as badly as it comes, and to have boots which last more then 1 season is a miracle, let alone 3.

Danner makes some great footwear, and their original style boots are bombproof, however the snakboots use the "Pronghorn" design and are just a shade above being deemed junk based on their inability to repel water for any duration. The issues aren't with durability of the boot as they seem plenty tough, it has everything to do with the waterproofness of the product.

We will see how the most expensive boots on the market stack up, and they may not hold up either, I will let you all know how the Russell's do in the field over the next couple of months.

I have hunted out of a pair if russells for two years now .....I have been all over the country in them and not a leak....I hunt everyday I can .....I had danger pronghorns they lasted two weeks before they leaked my back up pair is a set of Chippewa. Snake boots now

Last month after the NWTF convention I bought a pair of the 7" Danner Jackals for turkey season. After seeing this post on here I was ticked that I rushed into buying them. But my sweet wife just got back from taking them back to bass pro to exchange them for the snake boot that's on sale! For only 10 more bucks I was able to upgrade to the Danner snake boots! Needless to say I'm excited.
