I lost one. Shot her friday evening with a rage bh??..The arrow was cover with a slim green peas soup . I watch the doe for about 40 yard before she disappeared in the thick stuff.the blood was bright red.I ran out of blood trail and light. I search saturday without any luck. the blood trail lead me to a broomstraw grass field with red ,brown and green blades all over. Talk about a headache !!!I track her for about 150.00 yards then nothing. I am sick about it.! :(...

Dont beat yourself down.. It happens to everyone at some point. Just shrug it off and get back out there!

It happened to me last Wed. Shot a mature doe at 13yrds with a 2 blade rage. Gave her a hour and got down and tracked for 2.5 hrs. Found some blood but not as much as I expected. I think I only hit one lung. Never did find that deer. It was my first deer with my bow. I'm still down in the dumps.

I tracked a 8pt. someone else shot through the hips for 5 hrs. saturday morning, found out later that he had been shot friday night and been laid up in the weeds. Yeah it stinks but it happens. Better luck next time brother you get the point of bowhunting's sprit cause it bothers you so bad you didn't recover it.

Tim,

Sorry to hear that. Definitely a gut shot. Best thing todo when you have gut contents is back out and leave them alone for SEVERAL hours. Often they'll lay down and die in their beds. Otherwise, if you can't find any sign and there's water in the vicinity, they'll go to water when hurt bad. Just a suggestion.

One of our guys badly gut shot one (out of one of my stands, no less) late Saturday evening. We backed out and resumed the search yesterday morning in the rain. I found one large spot of blood about 50 yards from where she was hit, then nothing.... stinks, but it happens. Practice a lot....best way I know to avoid it. Shooting mechanics should be second nature so you can focus on watching the deer for the best angle shot, watch deer body language, etc. Best thing is to shoot at a relaxed animal if possible.
