I received my new stoned aluminum from Darrin Dawkins. It's everything I was hoping for. Super easy to use and very low maintenance. It cutts with ease and produces a sweet sounding two-note yelp with good rasp. Absolutely no slipping of the striker. This is definitely a mid- to long-range call rather than a cluck and purr pot.

I'm also a fan of the dymondwood striker. You don't need chalk with this call unlike his anodized one.

I'm very pleased with it and look forward to hunting with it. I was disappointed with his anodized aluminum call. This one is in a different league. I can't wait to say I "stoned" a gobbler this year (j/k).

Re: Darrin Dawkins New Aluminum Call

I actually ordered a plastic pot and walnut pot, but expect to hunt with the plastic pot. His plastic pots have always impressed me in the woods. I talked with Darrin this morning and he had just finished glueing 10 plastic pots. He will let them "set up/cure" for 2-3 days, so new orders will probably ship early next week.

Re: Darrin Dawkins New Aluminum Call

I ended up selling his anodized aluminum in a walnut pot because I found it to be too inconsistent. It sounds like these will be the ticket.

I got mine walnut over anodized aluminum and got in the mall a few weeks ago mine grips better then some of my slate calls sounds good. He did mention his new one I'll order that next year probably.

That is impressive and good for you. I have several and some of mine definitely grip better than others, which I cannot explain why.

i ended up doing the same thing. loved the sound of it but found it to inconsistent out in the field for my liking.

Re: Darrin Dawkins New Aluminum Call

My first of his were slick aluminum and I handled them fine, but the anodized does work better for me. Every caller is different but I barely put pressure on my striker and keep it conditioned by doing those two things I've never had any issue with consistency. If you bear down to hard with the striker it causes it to be inconsistent I feel, nothing wrong with that but that's the cause.

My calling style is pretty soft so it doesn't require a ton of pressure on the call surface.

It sounds like he's making some calls now for folks who have a different calling style which is a good thing.

Think I'll stick with the anodized and if any of y'all who want to unload one just let me know. I'll take it off your hands.

I know we've asked before but what's Darren's number?
Guess I'll give him a call and order a plastic pot. Just ordered Halloran's new Wenge and Walnut Slate. I should've bought it Saturday after running it. Can't quit thinking about it lol.

That call is getting a lot of hype from a lot of different hunters, I expect you'll be tickled with it.
