For those who have this call, how would you describe the surface texture?
Also, wood or plastic pot and why?
I'm thinking very seriously about trying one, but may be too late for the year.
Thanks!

It's a unique surface that grips really well. The striker does not need any chalk and the surface itself needs very little conditioning. I only have the plastic pot, but others that have both have said there isn't much of a difference in sound. Once guy even said he liked the plastic better. I would go with the plastic one since it's $50 less.

I believe Darrin still has plenty of plastic ones ready to be shipped.

^^^^ What he said. The plastic pot version "may" be available this late in the game, but I know the walnut pot will not be available until early next year, most likely Jan-Mar time frame. My plastic pot, coupled with the striker Darrin sent me, sounds awesome and it does not slip at all. I can almost guarantee you that you will hunt with it if you get one. Good luck with your final decision.

Thanks a lot!!
Do you know if evening is best? I assume he works a full time job outside of making calls.

I really prefer the older version and cannot develop a like for the plastic pot it just doesn't sound great to me
Do you use his pot style calls exclusively?
Is the older version a traditional slick aluminum surface?

His aluminum is my #1 go to call, and I do prefer the slick surfaces since I call pretty softly and the grippy surface tends to be very loud and raspy

Have you played his stoned aluminum?

I have, and it's a good call, but for me I like the anodized or even slicker earlier version better.

Hope he calls me back tonight....
I know I waited a little long, was trying to talk myself out of spending $$$ on calls this spring. But the reviews on this call have me intrigued.

It's worth it. You have to buy at least a couple calls every spring! It's the exciting bridge between deer and turkey season!
