...not a peep from tom or hen. Of course the wind was howling ahead of this approaching front so they could have been hollerin' like crazy and I wouldn't have heard anything. Anyone else chalk up an opening day goose egg?

I heard well over a dozen gobblers on roost and there has been good ground gobbling all morning. Haven't found a lonely one yet

I see some of these dead bird pics and looks like ya'll off to the east had some sun while here on the west side it was pretty much cloudy and very windy...gusts over 20. Maybe that had something to do with it.

I had one gobble four times on roost and twice on the ground. I couldn't get between him and the hens. They pitched down right towards him.

Pretty slow where I hunted in SW TN, just a few gobbles on the limb. Finally struck two old birds at 8:15, but could not call them away from their hens. They got fired up about 8:30 and closed the distance, double gobbling sporadically, but eventually the hens went the other way and the gobblers shut down around 10, broke strut, tucked their tails, shook off, and walked away from me with their hens. Typical early season scenario, and outcome. Last Saturday there were 14 hens, this morning they had 7 with them. I watched one of the old birds mount one of the hens around 9:30. My buddy that was hunting with me looked at me and said "it's hard to compete with that isn't it". :tu:

Was quiet as a church mouse here in Hardeman County this morning. I did manage to call up and take a 3 year old that came in silent. But that's just not as fun as working a gobbling bird all the way in.

Heard two birds gobble on the roost but they were way off. Did a little walking around and calling and heard two more on private property. That was my day.

I know it is heresy but I didnt even go. Going to go tomorrow morning before church. I wasn't totally clear where the landowner if I had permission to be there. He let me hunt there last year. He called me late at night and said oh my gosh I'm so sorry sure you can hurt today. Oh well there's tomorrow and a bunch of days after that.[emoji41]

Heard one bird gobble 4 to 5 times across the property line ....zero ground gobbling.. did get to play with 4 gobbling Jakes at about 10 steps that's always fun.. just thankful to make it to another spring

Wasn't going to hunt today but figured what the heck. Ended up going in blind to a spot I had never been and walked right under about 10 hens at daylight. Few piched off the mountain but the rest didn't leave, gobblers went nuts with the excitement and started gobbling hard, thinking there was 4. Was able to ease my way within 50yds of the gobblers on and old logging road, didn't think I could compete with the real deal but had to try. They hammered at every call but finally pitched off to the hens on a shelf, I shadowed them for several hundred yards and at one point thought I had the hens convinced to turn up to me. They didn't and turned down a finger with the gobblers hammering away. Then there was a single shot and the birds went quite, 20mins later they were back to gobbling and headed up the far ridge, only 3 gobbling this time. I didnt want to go after them in case there was more than one hunter down there so I just sat back and listened to them gobbling while enjoy a fantastic morning. Left around 10:30 and they were still gobbling, think I'll try them again Tues. morning. Believe I heard a total of 6 birds this morning.
