we got to where i heard the bird gobbling on the roost friday morning. while setting out our lone decoy, a bird sounded off CLOSE!!! we scrambled and got set up probably less than 60 yds away from him and settled in for the show. we heard at least 7 different birds gobbling all within 100 yds. just before fly-down, the hens start yelping and cutting. they flew down and went off to our left out of range. as they filed out into the neighbor's field, i caught movement as a jake is easing up towards us. it went behind a tree at about 70 yds and i adjusted to get on him as he came up the hill. his running buddy that i had not seen saw the movement and spooked. we could still hear hens all around us and we know those were not the only 2 gobblers(they shut up when they hit the ground).about 20 minutes later i heard the boy whisper "to my right" and i cut my eyes to see a bright red head peeking over the hill. he disappeard for about 10 minutes. next thing i heard is " i got a shot". the rest is meat.
