Anyone have any luck with a decoy? I was looking at getting one. Have any suggestions? Probably get a buck decoy...guess I could always take the antlers off and make it a doe.

A lot of work, and sometimes does more harm than good. Pretty good article on them in this months deer and deer hunting. Only time Id consider using one would be around the rut...more specifically the seeking phase

I have used them with some success during early season. I make sure that I use them in fields where the deer can see them a long way off. Only deer I have had spooked by them came right out on top of them. In the fields I have either had them ignore them completely or run straight to them. One of mine will be with me opening day.

I have killed about 20 does with mine and passed up many more does with mine. Have seen one buck mount the decoy and have had several bucks not like the decoy more this year. I have not used it much in the past couple of years, but will use a buck or a buck and doe decoy. I have mostly used just a doe decoy. When a doe gets mad at a decoy she is killable. The last time I used mine, my brother and myself hunted a large field. I told him to hunt beside me and we climb about 30 yards either side of the decoy. He wanted to hunt a different spot. Just before dark 2 different groups of deer came out by me within a few minutes of each other. One doe out of the first group was spooked by the decoy, she stood out in the field for about 20 minutes blowing at the decoy, some of the loudest I have ever heard. My brother was happy he hunted away from me, he thought. A few minutes before she quit blowing, I looked at the decoy, I had been watching her more than the decoy, and a small group of does was right behind the decoy, the biggest one had her nose right up to the tail of the decoy (she dressed 98 lbs) and I almost could not believe it, I shot her she went about 90 yards and piled up. All while the other deer was blowing like a hurricane.

I used one/one time! I placed it in the inside corner of a feild. LARGE feild. Does came out of usual area of the feild seen the decoy, stared for a split second and bolted!

I would like to try a buck decoy during the rut in Ohio this year. I have heard they work pretty well early Nov up there!

I have had a tuff time with decoys. The deer don't seem to like them. A lot of blowing and stomping and not showing up at all in places I know they should, do, and will. Have not tried during the rut yet but have tried on three different occasions and all 3 times did not like the results. Lot of trouble but maybe during the rut a buck would be emotional enough to come out and beat the living @#$% out of one.
