Anyone having any luck this season so far? I have only seen a button buck and a doe so far. (Knoxville TN)

Opening day...nothing. This past weekend, saw deer but no shot opportunities. It's still early and I've noticed a LOT of acorns on the ground in the main area I hunt. I don't believe they have to move as much or far to find food. Combine that with limited sight range due to leaf canopy still pretty thick and I'm not surprised that I'm not seeing much right now.

I hunt public land so it's pretty shotty anyways just wondering if anyone else was seeing anything

I've seen deer all three sits. Shot a doe opening morning, and missed one this Saturday morning 😂. So I told myself, I got all the fun with none of the work. I have hunted 3 times total. Yesterday AM I saw a couple of does but they were out of range.

My first two hunts were public, the Sunday AM hunt was private. Had better opportunities on Public, but it is all about the set up, what food is in the area and then will the deer follow the script.

I am in TN so public land is not very plentiful...

I sat for the first time last night and was hoping to snag a doe but the only deer within range was a button still wearing faint spots. I saw several other does & fawns but none close enough to poke with a bow.

Around here there's a great mast crop, this means the deer won't need to travel much at all. They can literally hang out in cover near a few White Oaks and not move much while they feed all day.

IMO that's likely a contributing factor to your lack of sightings.

If you can find an area with a few mature W/O's, and there's plenty of feeding sign there, I'd recommend setting up right away. Setup as stealthy as you can, and don't be afraid to adjust your stand location after a couple of hunts.

Best of luck to you!

I agree with your tactic of hunting remote locations. However, sometimes we walk thru quite a lot of great hunting places en-route to those areas. Occasionally, if you're diligent in checking for deer sign, and pay close attention to what the deer sign is telling you, you'll find a jewel of an area that's not as far out.

If you do find one of these places, keep it quiet, and don't mention it to anybody, for obvious reasons.

Is it legal to put a tree stand on public land and leave it during the season?

If you could nail down the prevailing winds in your area, and pickup another blind, that may help as well. Then setup each one of your hides for a different wind direction.

You really haven't got to have a other blind, just have several setups in mind, depending on the forecasted wind direction.

The regulations in WMA's state that personal property cannot be left unattended for over 24 hours, without permission from the area manager.

So, if you're hunting from them each day, that wouldn't be considered "unattended" the way I understand the regulation in this case.

I wouldn't trust leaving anything on public even if it was legal. The only exception might be if I had a lock-on up and carried climbing sticks in and out to access it. Good luck!

I donated a pop up blind a few years ago. I thought I was soooo far in and it was brushed in really good that no one would be able to find it. Wrong. These Game Wardens know their public land like the back of their hand. Not worth it. Besides them, other DB's (doosh bags) will probably steal it.

Im not seeing good acorns this year. Ive had good luck finding bedding areas with good sign and then setting up as close as you can to the edge. Also look into terrain funnel features.

99% of us on this site are in TN, so don't understand what you are talking about. There is plenty of public land in TN.

From where you live you have two of the biggest WMAs in the state. One to your north and one to your south. I imagine that is tough hunting from a terrain and deer density standpoint, but I have been told there are some really good deer in those WMAs.

I'm waiting for the rut. I see plenty of deer but all does and several spikes. I've caught two shooter bucks on camera but it wasn't in the last several weeks.

i was hoping the cold weather would bring them out, but I haven't caught any bucks on my cameras. I sure hope the bucks come to we're the doe are because we certainly have a lot.
