any idea who makes a descent bow mount that would support 2 mdfs and raise it up off the deck a bit without costing several hundred?

Hitek rod holder without the top t-bar.Scott at hitek will make you what ever height you want.I used scrap alum from work to make my mounting plates,could possibly get you some if you needed them.If you wanted to come by and check it oit in person pm me and i will give you my number.

Thanks for the ideas! I am in the same boat. Pun intended. I have been trying to figure out how to mount my 9" Garmin at the bow. I like the Ballzout mounts but $180 and up is steep. This gave me some ideas. I'm thinking about how to make one like bluball"s but make it retractable and run the wires inside.
