I'm new to making bows and I was just curious if anyone else made their own bows. I'm in the process of making a 68" hickory long bow right now and I think it's going to be a keeper. I've broken a few in the process, but they are getting better. My brother in laws and father in law all mess around with self bows but none of us are really good at it yet.

yep, i have made a couple hickory but wish i had put that time in on osage. i still hunt with the first one i made.

I have been thinking about it, just havent gotten my mind in the right frame yet. I have a tendency to rush things.

I made 5 last year. 3 hickory, 1 Iron wood, and 1 bamboo backed Ipe that I used to take to 8pts with.

Patience, Grasshopper. Patience.

Kidding, but not, really. Be ready to put hours into tillering. Be ready to make a beautiful bow that allows you to take just enough shots to fall in love with it, only to hear that fateful CRRRACK! on the 500th draw as one of its limbs gives way to fracture.

The reward of success is found through numerous failures.

Field Tested.

in stand last week, I looked down to find a young bowdock tree.
about two inches wide, straight and tall. I sat there imagining what a nice long bow it would make.
Guess I need to find someone who can whittle bowdock huh?
;)
