My nieces have been wanting to go jugfishing for some time, as they have never been, so I worked it out to take my brother and oldest niece (13yr old) on my boat, and my younger niece (11yr old) went out with my dad on his boat. After waiting out the storms, we hit the water about an hour late, and put out a few sets of jugs, then tried our hands at some bream with rod and reel. The bream didn't cooperate too well, and we only boated 2 keepers, so we went out to check the jugs.

The cats were not cooperating at all in the main channel on drop-offs, bluffs, or creek mouths, nor were they hitting up in the sloughs and creeks. So we put on some glow sticks and put the jugs back out just before dark. I had been running my jon boat the whole time, and my rather large brother was really throwing the balance out of kilter, so I literally lost 5mph off of my top speed, and I know that my 15hp motor was pushing hard to keep it up. I didn't pay any attention to my fuel level through this all, and I ran out of gas for the first time in my life either on water or land. I "borrowed" some gas from my dad and we finished picking up jugs. We boated a 3lb, 14lb, and my new all-time best, 36lb cat, so needless to say my nieces were thrilled, even if we did not catch a bunch. They are begging to go again, even my sour-puss brother.
