I moved, so you know how that went !
Was a great hunt though. Called him right off the roost, but he stood his ground at 100 yards or so, and demanded that the new hen in town show herself. He gobbled at least 50x. We were on the side of hill, with a well-traveled road less than 80 yards above us on a WMA.
We played chicken for over an hour, until I finally broke him. The holly bush between us (he had came up the hill to my right from where I initially had sat up) kept me from seeing his angle of approach. I thought he was coming left, but instead he stepped out at 30 yards at my 1:00. I had the gun at my 11:00. Instead of freezing I made the mistake of trying to turn on him. I started to rush a shot as he was hurriedly walking away, but thankfully resisted.
We shall meet again, hopefully.
