Had a chance to take a buddy I hadn't had a chance to hunt with for quite a while this morning. Right off had one answer a owl hoot 100yrds from the truck. Setup on him but didn't pitch down where I figured and immediately got with some other hens. Wondering if he had topped over the ridge we moved and got a different bird to fire off. Closed the distance a bit and when he gobbled again we knew he did also and sat right down and saw him coming and he made a great shot and put him down. We covered quite a bit of ground trying to get another to play but nothing. My stomach was telling me to get home about 1130 and feed it so we went back to get his bird and tried one last time and thought I heard a faint gobble. Waited a few seconds tried again and heard it closer. We dive in the brush to go after it. Glanced at the head of the field and spotted two gobblers. Moved in closer and they hammered every time we called. Worried they wasn't gonna work their way to us they finally turn and I put down a awesome bird I'll probably never be able to top. He had 4 beards 10,7,6,4 with 1 3/8 spurs. His was 10.5 with 1 3/8 spur. I said I'd never pay the money for a turkey mount but I don't see me topping this bird. So off to the taxidermist he goes.
