I've had a unbelievable blessed season. Started my weeks vacation last Friday. Called in a 2yr old I let walk. Saturday one of my closest friends and I came so close to doubling. I called in 2 coming right to us and let the bigger bird go by for him and thinking he was waiting for me to shoot I dropped the other only to find out he couldn't see the big bird just being 5yrds away. Sunday I failed to get my son one that morning and took my dad that afternoon. After setting in a creek bottom for 3hrs they constantly travel not hearing a peep a strutter pops out into the field for a moment and then ducks in. He wouldn't answer a call and it being 530pm I knew I had to make a move and pulled out the fan to see him strutting in thicket behind us headed to an opening. We kneel down and he makes the 40yrd shot on what I thought was the strutter but turned out having two subordinate birds with him and he mistakenly shot one. Monday called one in for a buddy at 725 and me dropping my 4 bearded bird. Tuesday called in the bird for my buddy I failed to double with Saturday and he stayed ju outside range. Wednesday my I make a long walk to a place I been waiting to go with my buddy from Monday. . Heard several on the roost but the shut up before we could make a move at flydown. After waiting 3hrs we pick up and drive several miles to a different spot. Walki in we jumped a hen and we yelp just past there to hear a faint gobble. Moving forward we call again and you could tell they were coming fast. They step out 30yrds and we put the 1,2,3 shoot and drop them both (first time ever). Thursday my body couldn't handle another day and had to take a day off. Today I tried to work my son another bird but got cut off by hens. It's next to impossible to for a 7yr old to run and gun especially in our terrain. We got on a different bird I could've killed by myself but spotted him. Got to be one of the best vacations I've ever had. Sucks sitting on one tag left with a month of season left. Wednesday bird was a 3yr old with 10.5 beard 21lbs and 1.25 spurs.
