Well, it's looking like my daughter has taken over my M2 20 gauge :o so I'm thinking about making her youth Escort 20 gauge a dedicated turkey gun. The gun has a dovetail scope mount. I've never seen that on a shotgun before. Would like some opinions on whether that type mount would securely hold a red dot or not.

Also the chokes look like beretta/benelli chokes but none of mine will fit. So I got to figure out what choke it is. Any insight here?

I have red dots on air rifles and they are far worse to try and get the scope to hold. Pretty much any of the mounts should work, just be sure of the dovetail size. Some of the BSA dovetails are multi-size.

In short you shouldn't have an issue with pretty much any dot. The scope on a shotgun or rifle rides back with the recoil, so it doesn't have to hold all that hard. I might be concerned on something like one of the older Brownings with the barrels that recoil, but on that Escort you should be okay.

If you are really concerned, just buy a "riser". That is a picatinny rail that holds securely onto the dovetail. Then you mount your red dot to the rail. The problem is sometimes the riser costs nearly as much as an inexpensive scope! :D

Now that you mention it, I have seen those somewhere..... The ones I looked at specifically were for Marlin/Savage rimfires with the dovetail ring mount.... The "adapter" slid on over the dovetain and was secured in place by set-screws. Then you could mount the standard scope rings as usual with a weaver type base.

I will see if I can find where I saw them at. They weren't very expensive as best I remember.
