Early season, hen or jake/gobbler decoy?

I generally start the early season with 3 or 4 toms strutting around 10-12 hens in various stances and throw in at least a couple of jakes looking on. If this fails to draw them in I might occasionally use one of my 8 calls to send out a yelp. But it really depends on the weather. If it's a little cool, I often will just keep my little buddy heater on with the tent blind windows closed until it warms up and my bacon and eggs are done.

that is a very nice. I hunted over decoys before and just never have had luck and just wasn't my thing. im not going to bash anyone using them at all though.

While its pretty clear you despise decoys and meant this comment as a slap to all that own/use them, its actually pretty funny and made me chuckle! Kuddos sir!

I use decoys and make no apologies for it. I hunt the woodline of a 10 acre field and am a terrible caller. I limited out last year so it works for me. BTW, I put out 2 or 3 hens and a Jake--the Tom's can't stand that setup!

Had a semi strut jake with 2 hens this Saturday - 2 gobblers came in.. Didn't like it. Left the jake alone and took up hens. Wasn't 30 min later, 4 came running in and tried to thrash decoy. Going with lone jake again this weekend. This was an afternoon hunt in a big clover field. Often I don't use any
