Today was the last morning I could hunt. Didn't really expect to hear any birds still gobbling, but figured what the heck. Started out behind my mom's house and only heard one bird, and he was on another property and way too far away to try and call. Packed it up and headed to the farm I spent most of the first half of season on. Not long after I got out of the truck, to my surprise, I heard a bird gobble. I slipped down to the edge of the woods and called...and you guessed it, nothing. I figured I was just wasting my time so I went and checked a salt lick and piddled around for a few minutes. Got tired of waiting to hear the bird again so I started the walk back to the truck. About half way back he gobbled again, across the road from where I actually thought he was. I made my way down towards him and called one time and he actually gobbled. I snuck down the tree line out to the edge of the field he was in and he was strutting, slowly working his way towards me. He got to about 60 yards and hung up, so I gave him one real soft yelp and it got him just curious enough. 10.5 beard, 1 inch spurs. Good way to end the season.
