Watched a tom fly up last night a few minutes after we arrived to TN. We set up in the pitch black 75 yds away. I clucked twice right at flydown, he pitched down and strutted on a beeline to gun range. There were a few jakes around as well, but this fellow had a big full fan. Bang flop at 605, and Ethan got his first bird of 2020!

When we got to him, I couldn't believe he didn't have a beard? Crap, you shot his beard off!.... then I started looking, bad beard rot, just about 10 strands left, one strand hit 5 in. Whew, he's legal.

Nice 2yo with 3/4 in spurs, 20.2lbs.

I sometimes forget in TN its not about the sex or maturity of a turkey, only whether the bird has a beard or not.

Ethan got to spend the rest of the day playing with his grandad, while I slogged all over the farms for the rest of the day in grand futility :)

I killed one several years ago like that most of his beard was about 1/2" long. It looked like someone had cut it with a pair of scissors.

Congrats!
His fan tips look really lite in color. The one I killed was like that as well.
Not quite Rio but definitely lighter than normal.

Wow, I figured you would ask why he shot it not seeing a beard.

Congrats to your son on the bird.

If you like to revisit the other thread where the irresponsible hunter shot three turkeys where only the head was visible, then please go there and we can discuss it.

What's the difference?
Not that I should have to explain but since I offended you;
For one, Megas son didn't just shoot at a random turkey head popping over a rise. Two, Mega acknowledge their mistake. If he does it two more times then there will be no difference, especially after he acknowledged it and your failed attempt to call me out.

Never seen a beard and shot a turkey not knowing it was a legal bird. No difference.
