I have done quite a bit of evening hunting, but my question is this. Are there any tricks to get birds to gobble in the evening. Around here the latest I have heard one gobble is around 1130-12. After that nothing. So what yall got?

I wish I could help but just on a couple of occasions have I gotten one to gobble late in the afternoon, but if you ever do find one they will typically come in pretty easy.

I heard a couple gobble yesterday evening. Not unusual around here to hear them gobble right before they go to roost. Which makes that spot great for the next morning. ;)

I've heard the same thing from old timers too. I heard one gobble after 3:00 Sat before last as I was doing some work out on the property. Got me pretty fired up for the opener too! ;)

Ive been hearing a few gobble of a evening the last few days. Just sporadically though, and mostly shock gobbling at crows but not consistently. I have had alot of luck when I can actually get on one in the evening thats gobbling.

Ole tom gobbled a good few times at me yesterday evening. Then I heard a bird gobble a couple times from the roost after sunset.

I have to say I will try evening hunting whenever I get the chance... currently I work every evening except sunday, so I wont get to do it again for almost a week.

Well guys after asking this question I must have hit it just at the right time. Got to the area and set up at 230. Made some light calling and nothing. Kicked back and dozed off for bout 15-20 mins and when I woke at 330 up crows were going crazy. That lasted about 10 mins before he broke loose in the holler. I shot him a call on my hooks mouth call and he answered not 75 yards to my right in the holler. Gave it a few mins and hit him again. Nothing! Never heard another word from him. Just as I was about to get and change locations a super jake also in the holler let out a half gobble. Jumped back down and shot him a call and he hammered back and continued to hammer for 25 mins. Neither bird would come out of the shaded pine holler to the field. So if I get a chance to get after them tommorrow evening Ill be in that holler waiting unless it raining.

Ive took many in the afternoon, but Ive hunted alot in the evenings as well. Usually, but not always, if he answers mid day or later he has a good chance at gettin to ride in my truck.

Some of my favorite hunts were afternoon. I used to hunt Ala. and it was not legal to hunt the wmas after 12 any ideas why? It was no fun leaving hot birds because it was getting close to 12 but it did make it more exicting up until you had to leave.

I have always heard if he gobbles at you in the late evening, you can kill him. Well I had two birds gobble yesterday evening and I still got all my tags left lol. Do you change your calling tactics from morning to evening?

Just got the yard mowed and fixing to slip in the holler where they were yesterday evening and see if I cant coax one with in 50 yards. Hopefully he decides to come to 25-30 yards, haha greedy I know, but if he happens to hang up at 50 Ill take him.

Here is an afternoon hunting tip that I learned from a hen. Several years ago, a friend and I were crappie fishing on Open Lake one afternoon. We had both killed gobblers that morning. All of a sudden a hen started cutting about 100 yards from us out in the woods. It was a very loud aggressive cutt and yelps. Gobblers started hammering. Since then, I have killed way more birds in after noon. This year 2:10 and 1:30. It works even better later when the hens are nesting. Here is another tip if you try this. Be ready, get hid, they can come if very quickly and silently

ive seen em gobblin at dusk right in front of me before going to roost, makin the hens come to him they will gobble at all times, but evening isnt as exciting, but that is more exception than the rule depends on the bird..ive killed just as many in the evening as i have morning !!
