Ya'll kill many gobblers in the late afternoon/evening? I honestly can't think of more than 2 or 3 I've killed after about 2p in the afternoon. I have intentionally set up and blind called a few times in the evening, gun in hand. To be perfectly honest though I was just in the woods to listen for birds to fly-up, see if they'd gobble on the limb once or twice, then get after them in the morning.

Any fans of evening hunts?

No help here because 99.9% of my hunts are morning hunts. I have tried roosting a bird a few times just to know where to start in the morning. I did have one time where I was roosting a gobbler that was just itching to fly back down and hook up with me but I backed out because as "workable" as he was I wanted to save him for my wife the next morning. Unfortunately it rained heavy that night and flooded the bottoms we needed to cross to get to him.

I've hunted them some real late and it seems they can get real vocal but not close. I also don't really like it because it could impact the next morning hunt

That exact thing happened a few years ago when I was scouting new property. He didn't gobble to the gun, but he died :D !

Another one I went after because we had played "ring around the rosy" all that morning. He was still gobbling pretty close to where he had been when I left him that morning. After answering, but not budging, to some soft stuff; I was needing to go because I was coaching my daughter's softball game and only had about 10 minutes left. I started cackling and cutting at him, and he came in on a string, gobbling his head off!

Last year, I had one come in and bust me about an hour before dark. He had hammered one of my series of cutts, but I didn't hear it. The young fella I had taken was a ways off and heard it (that's how I knew it happened). Anyway, a little later he blew my hat off over my left shoulder. He caught me trying to peek :x !

Those, obviously, aren't the norm.

If I have a big property I hunt anytime I can go and it's daylight. I've killed at all times of day. Tactics just change. If I'm hunting a small property I have found evening hunting to be detrimental to morning hunts. I prefer mornings but I go anytime.

In the evenings I usually just try to roost a bird or watch big fields from afar with binocs to maybe get a leg up the next morning. I'm probably more worried about bumping one and making it more difficult to close the deal, so never call. Another thing that impacts my afternoon/evening hunting is concern about bothering nesting hens. Maybe it doesn't matter one iota, but I try to not bother the birds part of the day and let them go about being turkeys in peace.

I might like to try at some point, but just to say I shot one later in the day doesn't have much appeal for some reason. I'd way rather hear/see'em gobble and strut and carry on like they do in the mornings.

I've been hunting mainly the years since my children have been born to where I don't even hit the woods until 8:30-9 am . I've killed way more turkeys from 9-5 than ever first light to 8ish . Now I don't even waste my time going early anymore, unless I go with a friend . Once you get on one after 8 usually it means business atleast in my experience .

Sorry, this is what prompted my question. I was just curious and didn't see the difference, especially when they will gobble good in the evening as well. But hey, it's a lot less crowded in the evenings on public land :) !

I've killed lots in the afternoon and evenings, but not near as many as morning to midday.

I have a turkey hunting disease, so I go every chance I get.

Afternoons gobblers typically aren't as vocal, but I have found out that if you can find one gobbling in the afternoon, your chances of calling him up are better.

^^^^^^THIS. I've killed several in the evenings, but I've humped a lot of hills other evenings and not struck a bird nor killed one. I'm more apt to hunt an evening when the daytime temp tops out at 75 or less. I've had some gobble to the gun, but just as many, or more come in silent where I can only hear them walking/strutting in the leaves, and drumming.

Have had a couple of awesome evening hunts but it's not usually the best time. Hit or miss

late evenings can be real hit and miss but you can find a super hot gobbler in late evenings wanted to roost with some hens. i have had some gobble like crazy with light fading fast. Im not a huge fan of late evening hunting but thats mostly because i have 3 kids and getting out without the wife getting pissed is harder to do these days hahah.
