I'm planning a backpacking trip in Cherokee National Forest, the Southern Unit, during turkey season. However, during two trips up there this winter, I have yet to see any turkey sign.
I've spent most of that time at the higher elevations (between 2500 and 4300 feet). Maybe they don't hang out deep in the forest and high up.
If any of you have any experience hunting turkeys in Cherokee, especially the Southern section, please drop me a PM.
