How is body heard of this this. In Unicoi co. the bear hunters had a private act passed that will stop bow hunting for bears. This act is going to the state in April if passed it will stop bow hunting for bear and cound end bow hunting for any game. TWRA can not stop what is happening and it will over rule what ever season they try to put in. I was on the phone for 4 hours the other day from the mayor to the people taking the act to Nashville. From what I hear the hound bear hunter are mad that bow hunters can kill bears and voted their buddies into office to get this passed. The mayor said that not everyone knew what they was voting on. But it is already passed. The only way to stop this that everyone that can needs to be at the town meeting Monday the 23rd and everyone speak thier mind and ask the the act be stopped. From the ones I have talked to at TWRA htis is not good and could be the beginning of the end. Thw links below will take you to the artical that was in the bowhunter magizine. The other link will give you some numbers you can call and speak your opion before it's to late.

I don't bowhunt for bears, but that is just plain BULL****!!United we stand,Divided we fall, goes for groups such as hunters too,not just a country.

I swear, I pretty sure I was told, last year all state private acts were dropped and dismissed. So I dont think this will hold water. Why would they abolish the private acts just last year and then go back and start all over

They did not take it the state hoping the bear hunters would forget about it. But they didn't they came to the meeting a month or two ago and wanted to know why this had not went to the state yet. This is real and could very well pass in the state. I am not a bowhunter for bear either but might kill one if I have the chance with a bow. That is my right and not a bearhunters thats mad about bow hunting. This could cost bear hunting in the state all together. I was told about this from TWRA employees. Everyone that can needs to be there Monday and call and speak your voice. You can send some of the commissoners emails from one of the links. This could cost you bow hunting for deer down the road.

They couldn't ban bow hunting for whitetail deer. The archery community is very powerful and has alot of money.
Oh, it is possible. But highly highly unlikely.
Think about it though. Some of those bear bow hunters might be like us whitetail bowhunters. You wouldnt like it if they took away bow deer season.

DEERSKINNER mentions if this gets passed it would over rule whatever seasons twra tries to implement. So basically bear management could go down the drain, with the bears...

Agreed that this sucks for bear bowhunters.

Not a huge fan of bear hunters. If you ever cross them in the woods you'd understand.

I'm surprised any of them could read or write well enough to even draw up this act, much less be involved in polotics.LOL

Either way I doubt it will amount to much. It'll get lost in it's own paper trail. IMO

Yep our Wildlife Law Enforcement instructor told us that all Private Acts were done away with last year. However, I do know that Lake County tried to pass a Private Act and now Unicoi is trying to pass this one? Wat the heck

i know several bear hunters. they are no different from deer hunters.

If I wasnt in Iraq I would be there! This is crazy!!!! There are consequences and repercutions for every action...weather good or bad!! I hope they know what they getting thereselves into..haha...This gonna be bad if that passes....

We need to be standing up for one another. It's easy to have your rights taken away. You gotta stand up for them. I dont hunt with a Xbow, but you better belive if something came up against xbow hunters I would be right there with them.

These acts don't have to stop with just bow hunting. I if anti hunters start this and vote thier buddies into office then they could vote down anything including hunting all together. We don't need to want till it passes to speak up the time is now. The beginning of this tread has numbers and some of the commisioners names if you click on them you can send them a email. Everyone that can please speak up to them. As I said before I am not a bear hunter but I would kill them if I had the chance because that is what TWRA says I can do. Not some pissed off bear hunter that can't kill one without the help of a hound to me if anything needs to stop it is that but that is thier choice and I have stayed out of thier way and let them hunt thier way.

Steven,

A few of the existing private acts created sometime in the 70s that affected TWRA, were done away with. There is nothing that prevents new private acts going on the books tomorrow (figurative).
