I was practicing decocking my Excalibur Vortex using the rope aid and I notcied that the serving on the left side is cut down to the string. I did just as the video on their site showed. Do you get normal wear of the serving from the trigger release or did I possibly damage it some how with the rope aid? Does decocking this way put an extra amount of stress on the string ? The string looks ok, do you think it's safe or should I replace the string? It's the Excel string that came with it. Thanks, this is my first rodeo with a crossbow.

Dummy me, in my anxiety about a cut serving, I was trying to chocolate chip cookie the bow with the safety on, that dog don't hunt!! I may not have waxed the serving enough and just got some normal wear and tear on it. Don't see how the rope aid could have cut it. In decocking the bow I am not able to pull the string off the trigger mechanism but i keeping firm pressure so that when it releases I can slowly lower the string. Is that ok?

Yes it is ok to decock the bow that way. Depending on what model you have, some of the excaliburs are hell on the serving. Just keep it waxed really well and rotate the string. The serving with wear out long before the actual string will

Could check the hooks on your rope to see if there is a sharp place in one of them. If there is you could sand it smooth. Just a thought.

You also can use some very fine emery cloth and sand/polish the string hooks on the xbow itself. All you do is slide something up the rails like the actual string does untill the hooks come up, then you cut the emery cloth into 1/4 in wide strips and sand the back side of the hooks untill they're very smooth. The reason for doing this is because they tend to have casting lines or roughness from the factory and kinda eat at the string due to the amount of pressure of being cocked and the string sliding over the rough hooks. It doesn't take very long to make them smooth and will extend the life of your serving. If you have any questions feel free to pm me.
