What kinds of places u find turkeys on north cherokee wma? Where do they spend alot of time in the mountains?

you will probably have to wait till about a week or 2 before season and wake up really early and drive up the mountain right before daylight and stop every mile or so to listen for birds gobbling from the roost.

try to find fields where the birds will go to strut, feed, and stage during rain/wind. that is where i see the most before the season. Worm's advice is probably the best though. much easier to find birds once they make their presence known.

The forest is full of gated roads that can be walked for miles. Alot of these roads have small clearings or fields along them planted in wheat or clover. Turkeys often travel these roads and hang around the fields, of course, so do alot of hunters. There good places to start. Try huntin midday in these areas after the morning crew has left out.

Cruise ridge lines and locate on North Sides in the draws, or as you all call them hollars. I don't hunt CNF, but do hunt Mtn turkeys, and I never see them in or kill them in fields. Every body that goes to the woods humps up on a field, and many times the birds are 1/3 of the way down the mtn from the fields on the first flats. JMHO.

very good advice. I neglected to mention that the birds you will see in the fields and clearings here will often be pushed back into the woods on most of the CNF due to all the people hunting the field edges. I have had zero luck getting birds to work in or near a field. They seem to know the edges are dangerous during the season. But you will see birds there, and once you know where they are coming from you can usually find the roost and set up on them either coming off it or heading back in the evenings.
