Falco Bows vs. Bear bows

Hello wise archers. I need some advice. I realized that my Bear Supermag 48 is way too short for my 30-31 inch draw length. What bows out of the Fred Bear line would your recommend for me and how long do they need to be? I have been hearing that I need a bow for sure over 62-64 inches. Also, I would love some opinions on the Falco bows and which bow, if any, would you recommend for deer hunting. I am definitely leaning towards a Falco Force Vintage. Thanks for the help.
 
Assuming by the draw length your on the tall side & a longer bow (60+ inches anyway) would probably fit you better & I'd bet be a more forgiving bow to shoot also.

I dont know which bow is at which length but it should be hard to find out, check out most any site that sells them & it should list the overall length.

I;m assuming your actual draw length is 30-31 and not your compound DL. most trad shooters dont pull their compound DL.

the longer bows, 60+", will cause you less finger pinch and are generally easier to shoot, even for shorter folks. the only draw back is the longer bows are not climbing stand or pop-up blind friendly.

I dont have any experience with the Falco bow so I can't comment there. but I will say picking a bow is a personal issue, what I like you may not and vise-versa. you will have to try them out.
 
Thanks for the advice. Typically, your traditional bow draw length is a little shorter than your compound draw, correct?
 
Most recurves are manufactured to reach ther draw weight at the 28 inch mark, after that I think the rule of thumb is add 3 pounds for every inch drawn past the 28 inch mark.

say if its a 50 pound draw weight at 28, & you draw to 30inches, in theory add 3 pound per inch would be 6 pounds total should make it 56 pounds of draw weight.

I have seen some for sale that advertised a longer draw length but dont know if it was custom built for that length/draw weight ot seller just bought a lighter draw weight & drew back to (??) 30 inches & done the math to guesstimate the actual draw weight.

Thers tricks a man can try to get the draw length he wants I guess, dont see why a string loop & release couldnt be used to gain a inch or so if ya wanted, some die hard trad guys mite sull up at such a technique but if it works & you can shoot good its no one elses biz what works for you,or of your into it & dont care to drop the cash a custom bow (new/used) would the way to go but I'd say they aint gonna be cheap.

i agree with that statement.
 
I posted a question about this on tradgang & the feed back was...

That its probably a draw weight issue more than draw length, considering the added poundage from drawing past the 28 inch mark it feels like the draw length wont work for you.

in effect...shoot a bow with less poundage than you are now, so when its puled past the 28 inch mark the draw weight will increase to what you actualy want.

Say you want a 50pound draw weight at 30 inches, the bow should be set up for 45 pounds at 28, once you figure the 2 or 3 pounds added per inch past 28 that will put you in the 50 pound range when drawn to 30 inches.
