i hunted sunday and had birds gobbling on 3 sides of me.Bad thing as usual they were off our property so i had to try to call them off the ridge and get them to go 200' straight up to me.I finally got a group of gobblers headed to me and a hen that had been yelping by me all morning must have went to them because she stopped calling and so did the gobblers.I think she even gobbled a few times during the morning or it was the worst jake gobble I have ever heard.lol
i left at 1030 and went back to the other lease and my dad said he had one gobbling.i circled the bird and called. He was a long way off so I moved closer.i called again and he was still a long way off so I moved up on a dirt pile to hear better and when I called he gobbled right on top of me.
I didn't have time to move so I just sat on that dirt pile with no cover and waited for him to come down the logging road.he came strutting by and I shot him at 27 yards.i would have worried about the set up a couple years ago but learned you as long as you don't move you don't usually need much cover.20lbs 10" beard and 7/8" spurs.Thats 5 gobblers in 5 days for our group this year.
