If you have any turkeys I went and back on our place sunday, yesterday and today NO birds. I havent harvested a bird in 4 years opening day. Ive had a couple of oppurtunities and buggered them up. But this is the first year in 21 years as far as i know that there hasnt been at least one gobbler on our place its so disgusting. But hey I now have a plausible reason to book a hunt somewhere to kill one of the subspecies lol

Are you not seeing any sign, ie scratching, tracks, etc., or are you just basing it on not hearing any gobbling?

No gobbling does not necessarilly mean no birds. Case in point...

I hunted opening morning and had at least 5 birds gobbling their heads off within a couple hundred yards of me and a bunch more further off. I easilly heard over 100 gobbles in a couple hours that morning.

The next morning, I heard NO GOBBLES anywhere near me and only about 5 gobbles all together that were far off.

Now, I know that all those birds didn't leave the country. They had to be there. They just shut up.

No theres no sign or any thing i got out yesterday. in the fields, creek bottoms and all. no scratching no crap nothin. see when i was 14 or so it wasnt nothing to hear 8 or 9 birds on our place. It started going downhill about then to 2 birds then one per year until last year. I heard one gobbler a week before season, opening morning assuming he was the same gobbler since there nothing on the creek, was about a mile closer to the house. about two weeks later my brother had to go sign the loan papers on his new house, the sly dog was gobbling and strutting on the hillside behind our house. I was stuck at work. After that day nothing. This year i seen two big longbeards the day after christmas in a spot i deer hunt religiously, first and only time i seen them. Now theres nothing at all. I dont know what happened to all of them. My neighbors aint even hunting there places because of no birds.

The numbers in my county have been steadily dropping for at least the last 5 years. There are now quite a few farms that used to have turkeys but no longer do. Pretty much sucks.

The place I'm hunting isn't loaded with birds either. Not much sign but they are around on neighboring properties from what I have heard during the mornings. I'm hoping to lure one in.
