Are top two patterns 3" or 3.5" shells? Are you going to stick with SSX .643 choke all season? If so, I'd never recommend anyone shoot #4s or #5s out of a choke that tight. I'd say stay with #6s if you have to stay with the .643 constriction and keep your shots to 40 yards and less (no exceptions). Remember over constriction is as bad or worse than under constriction.

Top 2 are 3", I do plan to stick with the ssx for this season at least. Thanks for the input on the #4s I had a box laying around I just thought I would try. I can and will adjust the poi, little windy today so I didnt wanna mess with it much as being afraid the wind may have pushed the pattern one way or another lol dern swerling winds. Ill tackle that next weekend. Whats yall thoughts on magblends out of this choke? O and I do keep my shots within 40 yards, idc if I was putting 200 in a 10 at 50 yards I wouldnt shoot a turkey that far.

Try some #7 through the SSX, I shoot same choke with Nitro straight 7's. I also have a Jellyhead .660 that patterns well with the triplex loads.

I'm with Andy...might be over-constricting as .643 is quite a lot for a 12ga with 4s. See all the open areas in the pattern? A toms head could easily slip through that swarm. Trying to cram that much shot through might be what's limiting the pattern a bit.

Based on the photos, those 6s are just fine but there's probably not a great margin of error beyond 35 yards.

I just ordered some mag blends and will be trying them this weekend as well. If they dont do well Ill order some 7s.

As been said, too much choke is as bad as not enough.... IMHO, .643 is pushing it for #7's..... If your going to go with MB's or #6's try a .665-.670.... might try a .660 if you have one, but I didn't have much luck with a .660 & #6's.....

again, exit diameter is not always the entire story.

I shoot a 650 in my stoeger and it has a CRAZY good pattern with the magblends, much better then the 670 of the same choke style.

643 sounds super tight but there are a bunch of guys that shoot that choke with very good numbers and patterns.

This is the best thing you can do to see how your setup handles the MBs. My guess is your patterns with SSX will be as good or better than your #6 patterns since MBs are 5X6X7. My gut feeling is the majority of shot in the MBs (pellet count wise) is #6 & 7s (I have not dissected a shell to confirm this). Post up the results so we can hear how it went. Look forward to your report.

Rem SSX has .643 constriction and Mossberg SSX (for 835) has .670 constriction. Sorry for the confusion guys, I should have explained my initial reply a little better.

I was trying to say that a .643 in one of my overbored guns would be bad. Are we back on track yet? LOL
I was with you JL. I think we were trying to imply that would never be the case because we have never even seen a.643 choke for an over bored gun such as the 835, at least I know I have not. Most of the ones I have seen were .670-.690.

I have a 660 for mine. but wilson precisions makes a 638!!! i would be scared to put a load of number 6s through that
