So we have been getting soaked here in VA this week. I have seen no gobblers and heard very little gobbling. I did have 6 hens on top of me yesterday, but they were not tended too.

We have a lot of turkeys in my area, and as of a few months ago plenty of gobblers too.

The neighbors had 20 acres clearcut during deer season. These were mature pines and the turkeys frequently roosted there. Right after the cut, I was deer hunting late season and heard a group of turkeys fly down on my place. Moments later here comes a train of about 10 longbeards making a b-line for the cutover dirt.

The few gobblers I have heard...have come before fly down from that same roosting area, a holler of poplar trees. Past experience has shown that it is fruitless to try to sneak in under birds roosted there...you will get busted. And anyway, they don't stick around that holler anyway.

Based on my lack of seeing gobblers in the fields...is it likely they are heading to the fresh cutover instead?

Have the fields greened up? If so they're headed there would be my guess

Also, don't fret over the lack of gobbling so far. The birds where I hunt were ghosts until Tuesday and they've erupted. I hunt at high elevations and they were way behind this year. I'm finally headed home from Phoenix so maybe I can get some revenge

Yeah the fields are looking great. We had a lot of late cold weather, then spring turned on like a lightswitch and seems earlier than most.

I am an impatient turkey hunter...I would rather move and call. But I only have 90 acres to work with so I better learn to be patient :D

If the fields have greened up "greened " is that a word? Lol and it is still raining, this is where i would be. Turkeys in the rain like fields around here! Good luck!
