Up until yesterday I have had an uneventful season...hadn't seen or heard the first tom after numerous trips. Last week I was given permission to hunt a new place. I hunted it one day last week to no avail. It essentially is a HUGE horse pasture surrounded by thickets. I can't cross the property line into the thickets so it is all open pasture. There is a higher elevated portion of the pasture and a lower elevated portion of the pasture separated by a tree line. I drove back home yesterday from Chattanooga and decided to go for a quick hunt around 5:00pm. When I got to the property I could see 6 hens and one big ole tom strutting in the higher pasture. I snuck to the tree line and peaked over the hill. The birds were about 150 yards away. I mouth called and got no response (obviously the tom had enough action with all of his hens--he never gobbled). To keep this from becoming a novel, I positioned and repositioned probably 4-5 times with the cover of the tree line. I would see them, move, lose sight of them, reposition and so on. Finally a hen led him across my gun at about 25 yards. Down he went. I don't know if this is called "bushwhacking", "stalking" or some other technical term. All I know is he was a big bird and I am thrilled. It was fun working hard to avoid detection and getting myself into position for a shot. Very glad I went out there.

Double beard: 9.5" and 6"
Spurs: 1" and 1.25"
weight: Don't have a scale...but seemed to be my heaviest ever

Congrats on a great hunt!
