We have Been hunting this piece of land hard when we get a chance 32 acres. We knew there were two gobblers staying on it regularly but they have had a herd of hens with them. The last two weeks that we hunted them they haven't been gobbling much. Gobbling on roost and shutting up when they hit the ground. We tried hunting them Saturday morning but got rained out. So we decided to go in this evening after work and when he got out of school. We snuck in quietly and set up on a log road. He said he heard one gobble off in the distance but I never heard it. We were watching a field that this log road ran into. I decided to call on my twisted sister call today. A little soft yelping, purring and leaf scratching about ever 10 to 15 minutes. After about 45 minute I started hearing something coming through the leaves off to the side of us. It wasn't moving our way real fast. He was sitting in front of me about ten yards so I tried to get his attention and tell him something was coming our way. But he couldn't hear me so I scratched the leaves one more time. He gobbled and started coming in fast. The gobble got his attention. I told him to get ready. It came over a rise about 25 yards away and he let him have it. This is his first bird of the year. He tried using my other 12 gauge and missed a couple birds earlier in the season. The gun patterns great but I think the weight through him off. So he went back with old faithful his youth model 870 20 gauge. 9 3/4 inch beard 7/8 inch spur and 22 pounds.
