After the rain stopped I took off about 12:30 to the spot where I had 4 longbeards and a flock of hens at 40 yards opening weekend but they wouldn't seperate enough for me to feel comfortable shooting but today I caught 2 of them without hens and it wasn't long before they were at 15 yards looking for love. He was Just shy of 18lbs and had 2 beards and some beard rot as the big beard only had about 15 strands 8 inches long and the 2nd beard was 3 inches but he is one of the best spurred gobblers I have killed. I haven't been able to go as much as usual due to having a 17 month old wild lil future hunting buddy that I can't wait to take to the woods. I'm blessed!

Great bird, congrats. Looks like a pellet may have sheared off that beard.

Before they came in I could see thru my Binos that his beard was pencil thin. There were no pellets in the breast as it was a close shot and it almost took the top of his head off and the tips of the short broken off strands were almost blonde. I have never seen beard rot but that's what I assumed it was?
