Hadn't been seeing any this year, hadn't really looked either but usually they come through the farm here often.

Today I was going back to the pumpkin patch and bumped a hen with 5 or 6 poults. They were bigger than quail but still smaller than a Guinea or chicken. I thought that was unusually small for this time of year. Maybe she tried a second hatch?

They hung around while I rode the mower around. They were spooked by me but didn't leave.

That size poults would be around 6, perhaps 8 weeks of age... so hatch was late May, early June. Could have been either a first clutch from an adult hen or a renest, or a first clutch from a jenny. Hard to know for sure the circumstances of the hatch, but good to see poults this time of the year... every week they live, the less likely they are to be killed by predators

They're still around and doing well. Took this pic a couple days ago

I have seen an unusual amount of poults this year on our places in Rutherford county [emoji3] I have seen three different hens with 8-10 poults in the last 2 weeks which is impressive given all the coyote pups I have on camera this year [emoji35]
