Hunted past 3 days in Alabama and been on birds every day.

Roosted him last night and got in early this morning and shot him a few seconds after his feet hit the ground. He flew down very early. Sunrise at 6:42 AM shot him at 6:34 AM around 10-12 yards. Got caught in a lightning storm in a cutover on the way back to the truck, had to hunker down in a holler.

Good one..looks like you were hunting in some recently thinned timber. Those can be absolutely fantastic hunts.

That's getting in on them tight, way to go! Did ya use the wingbone on him?
no I was gonna wait till he pitched down and see what he did. I was about to reach for my pocket to get a mouth call in case I had to use it. He flew down and caught me off guard and stepped up to like 12 yards and just stood there

Congrats! Almost too quick of a hunt, but still a great feeling to get #1 after a year off.

Your story made me think of this. Congratulations.

Congrats! I'm jealous. First time I looked at this I thought you may have shot him in half strut facing you or something else took out a chunk of tail feathers. But it looks like the middle two feathers just grew in super short? I've never seen one like that.

yeah he was like a fall turkey with the middle feathers half way grown.
