First Day of Fall Hunt...Any Luck?

Well...today was my first day turkey hunting. While I didnt see, hear, nor smell a bird, it was good to get out in the woods.

Anybody else go today?

To my understanding, you kill as many per day as your permit allows. 3 birds per permit per county.

Saw 6 deer, coyote, 6 geese, 2 snipe, no turkeys. Won't see the coyote again.

Dad killed his three yesterday. Two toms and a hen.

Can't go until Friday. Have a flock of about 40 hens, 12 jakes and 4 longbeards (separately but within 70 acres) roosting in the right spot-as of last night. Fri-Sat-Sun is hunt-o-rama for me.

Dare I say this on a deer site but I love trukey hunting much more than deer hunting.

I've turkey hunted just about as long I know how to ride a bike. Turkey hunting is my "New Hobby" project for this year. Right now I'm limited to heavily hunted WMA areas so I'm not too optimistic. I certainly hope my luck pans out and I get the passion like you.

I hunted the middle Percy Priest WMA. I'm hoping to hit both the upper and lower b/f the season is over. It's looking pretty unlikely with the weather forecast.

Goose Egg Day #2 today. I didn't see crap in the woods once again. Oh well...maybe next time.

I hunted the middle Percy Priest WMA. I'm hoping to hit both the upper and lower b/f the season is over. It's looking pretty unlikely with the weather forecast.

Percy Priest is loaded with Turkey. Flocks upwards of 50 birds in some places. The way I find them is deer hunting. I just remember where they are. THey will stay in the same area as long as there is food there. When they are grouped up like that they are not as smart IMO and you usually can walk up to within 30 yds of them. I am heading out in the next hour, just waiting for it to warm up a bit.

Goose Egg Day#3. I went out this afternoon with a more experienced hunter. Again we didnt see jack.

Oh well...beats sittin on the couch stuffing my face.

Shoot all the hens you can fellas, those things are eatin up more than their share of acorns.

Trust me...if I could find a hen, she and her girlfriends would done for.

Went this morning and saw a group in a field. try to flank them, but they got off before i could get around them. About 6 birds total, but I can't find the flocks that have been there traditionally. I assume someone got into them on the 7th and they have relocated for a couple of weeks. I always seem to find them again about the end of deer season, when it is safe for them to come out!
