I go into the woods looking for meat for freezer around 6:15 this morning. I came out with it but not a deer. I was in my tree stand and father decided he needed to do some work in the field lol. So I climbed down around 8:15 and left it on the tree. I walked down the ridge and sat down next to a tree. About an hour went by and heard the helicopter's coming in. There were around 15 hens and four gobblers by the time I finished cleaning my paints out. I thought I would add one for thanksgiving, so I picked the fattest one out and let her eat at 15 yards. I was amazed that the dang bird took flight with my arrow and thought why the crap is the woods doing this to me :cry:. I watched it land about 30 yards down the hill and lost sight of it. I leaned back up against the tree and loaded another arrow in the crossbow. About an hour later I needed to leave for family time and thought I would go down to where I last seen him. I was so happy that I found him five feet from where I lost visual. I am still concerned that I will not get a deer this year, but at least the woods gave us something. I took him over to have feathers and beard mounted. I seen several hunters there with deer and they said I did good because it was an old bird. I offered to trade him for their deer but nobody took me up on it
