So I got myself a Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag Turkey this year and I am about to start shooting. Any recommendations on a load? I am hoping to use this for more than turkey, but turkey is where my focus is right now. Got it in mossy oak break up too. Thanks for any advice, I am getting good at calling right now

What are you looking to invest in ammo? You want to go with lead or one of the High Density shot flavors? Do you have a turkey choke for it yet?

I have an extra Primos TightWad .690 if your interested.... PM me for details.

Before you spend a lot of money on a new choke, test your gun out with the factory turkey choke. I used mine for years with the factory choke and finally bought a jelly head. I compared the factory with the jelly head and had very little difference in patterns out to forty yards (my personal limit) with the Winchesster 3.5 inch #5 loads.

Up until last year I used the choke that came with it and Winchester Supreme #5's. I changed to the Primos Jellyhead and Hevi Shot Mag Blends. A lot more pellets in the kill zone and could kill one at 60 yards if needed but have no plans to as I like them around 25-30. Killed one with original set-up at a little over 50 because I misjudged the distance but had to put a 2nd shot on him.

I have the factory choke that came with it and I want to test it out, but I am open to other chokes. I think I will try out the Winchester Supreme #5's they seem to be really popular and highly recommended.

they are cheap and have killed most of my birds (some were #6) including 3 hens in one shot. They get the job done good.

If it came with a factory choke, I would say it is atleast worth to give it a try before buying other stuff. Winchester Extended Range and Hevi-shot are my two favorite shells, both expensive. I would stay away from the cheap Winchester Supremes, they will get it done but you can spend a little bit more money and get the flite controlled wad Federals. Those shoot really well for mid-price range shells.

I shoot the federal flight control wads #5 in 3" out of the same gun (mossberg 835) with an H.S. Strutt undertaker choke. The factory choke patterns good with the federal 3 1/2". I have a gobble stop choke that doesn't pattern as good as the combo I shoot. I have shot alot of shell-choke combo's through my gun and this is the best i've found. The undertaker choke is only 20-25 bucks.I did buy some hevi shot 3" #6 blend that pattern good but they are pricey. All guns are a little different though.

first thing you need to do is deep clean or polish the barrel than if i didnt like the factory choke i would get a pure gold and magblends hell of a combo in the 835
