Took advantage of the little cooler weather we had yesterday and went and moved a lock on and sticks to a new location. I've said for years I wanted a stand in this big pine on a point in this field but seemed like I never had much time to do much living out of state. Was worried there was gonna be too many limbs to see out of it but it placed perfectly in between all the tree limbs and only had to cut 2 out. Now it's setting 20' up with great cover just waiting for Sept 3rd.

I try to do a couple a week, but it is almost too hot right now
I always say I'm going to do most of mine Jan-Mar when it isn't hot but I stayed with my tradition this year of not doing that and left it for the heat lol. Did get a set of sticks hung in March but that's it. I have 2 or 3 more to do at my new place but have several spots already in place from over the years.

I would love moving mine during the winter, but I need to get an idea of what the acorn crop is going to be before I set stands. Deer patterns are 180 degrees different on my place in a good acorn year versus poor.

I like setting mine in July-Aug so I can see any limbs blocking shots. If I have clear shots with full leaves, then I'll almost certainly have clear shots once leaves fall. I wish I had some evergreens like the OP. They have built in cover!

Good luck OP! Looks like a nice hidey hole :)

Not only being able to see if limbs or saplings are in the way, but I want to make sure deer have plenty of time to get used to all the cutting we do to remove those limbs and saplings.

Yep, I've already been out trimming up/prepping shooting lanes at some new stand sites. Rather do it now and not spend too much time stinking up those areas closer to the season. So far, we've already prepped 4 new stand sites for the upcoming season.

I haven't done a thing. And learned my lesson I thought last year. Went out and the squirrels had eaten my seat all my straps and anything else they could chew on. But I am a lazy man unless provoked. Maybe this weekend if the humidity allows me to breathe.

I ALWAYS think I've "learned my lesson." Nope.

At least this year I marked numerous trees to place stands in while the leaves were still off in February. But other than that, just trying to plan which stand will go where. We will probably move around 15 stands over just a couple day period, so it takes some planning for how to do it most efficiently. But haven't moved anything and won't until late August.

Luckily most of my hang on stands I have now are mesh seats so the squirrels don't mess with them. I have several hang ons I leave up year round but I ALWAYS add a strap to them for safety. I always use 2 ratchet straps when I hang one for the first time and a lot of times I add a strap and don't take one off. Some I have up have 6-8 straps on them lol.

I inspect all straps on all stands every year, and if I see even a hint of an aged or weak strap, it gets replaced. With 42 ladder stands that stay up year-round, I spend a fortune on straps every year!
