Decided to turkey hunt this year after never hunting in my entire life at age 42. Always fished never hunted. Been frustrating to say the least. Spent about 40 hours on the prowl and have come close but no turkey. Today went to private land and there were turkeys in the field as soon as we got there. My buddy, long time hunter, told me he would go to the left and flush them my way. 5 minutes later one of them went sprinting past me, 2 flew away but one poor soul decided to jog and I hit him at 25 yards. Quick but exciting. 20.8 lbs, 1 1/8 spurs and 9.5 in beard. Thrilled and ready for #2.

Congrats! I did not start hunting until 37. Isn't it a rush!

If you have the primal instinct and you get the hunting bug you'll have many exciting moments and A LOT of frustrating moments ahead of you. If you think your hunt today was fun, wait until you call in and kill your first gobbler all by yourself. In my opinion there's nothing better except maybe your first deer kill with a bow, but that's a whole different discussion. Enjoy the journey, man. It's awesome. Better late than never!

Aaaaaaaaaand you're hooked! Ha! Congrats, man! Heck of a first bird!

You just have no idea what type of financial, frustration, and (possible) marriage burdens you have signed up for... but it's worth every bit of it to get after those spring gobblers! To me its truly more of an obsession than deer hunting.
