I got my first turkey on Saturday. It felt more like deer hunting weather than spring turkey, but we toughed it out. About 3:30 pm, this gobbler came toward the field we were watching over. He saw me pop my head out of the top of the brush blind we were in, but I didn't move. He kept looking my way as he walked diagonally across the field away from us. I told my buddy/guide that he wasn't getting any closer. He asked me how far he was and I said about 40 yards. He said "take him". I shot and he fell in his tracks. Once we got out of the blind, we realized it was a little further. Stepped it off at 74 yards! 28" Mossberg 835 did its job!

Dang! congrats on the bird and that is one heck of a far shot. I missed a bird with 2 shots at that distance... killed my first at 5 yards and it was a jake. You got a real nice bird there

I could have sworn the guy where I checked in said they were 1 3/4". I got nervous with everybody making a big deal about it. I'm new to turkey hunting, so I didn't really think anything about it. Anyway, I measured with my tape measure and got 1 1/4". My bad!

Thanks everyone! I'm ready to go get my second bird. By the way, I smoked this one yesterday and had him for dinner. Way better than Butterball!

aint a thing wrong with 1 1/4 spurs that is still a brute. I was not fully doubting they were not what you said they were to start with, i just have never personally seen some that big and really wanted to see a pic of what something that big even looks like!

regardless of spurs size that is a heck of a bird, congrats.
