i am about to start my 3rd year hunting and i have gone out bow hunting only one time last year. this year is going to be different...i am going to be out from opening day on...i have a new ground blind that i am excited to try...any good advice you guys have to give to a newbie??

Try to find a good bottleneck away from the fields , hunt the thicker areas , and keep your shots under 20 yards . If a shot doesn't feel right , let down and pass .

I am a fan of the Permanone. i was not bother by any ticks or chiggers...my girlfriend put the same Permanone on and was eaten up with chiggers and found a tick on her too...

Jer, one of the obvious differences, unlike gun hunting, is that you have to have the deer up close and personal. You can't shoot them out there at 100 yards. So, I recommend you make sure you control your scent as much as possible...especially, if you are going to attempt to bow hunt on the ground...not only your scent but you need to control the scent of your ground blind, your bow......

Know what you are hunting: Doe, meat or horns

I have never been a gun hunter, only a bow hunter. A fellow on here suggested I shoot the first 10 legal deer that present me a shot. He said I would learn so much by doing this... and then I could get picky.

I took him up on it and arrowed 10 deer in my first three years of deer hunting. 5 does, 5 bucks. He was right, I learned a ton about hunting!

You might try it as well.

I have bowhunted more than most people I know. I have missed more deer than most people I know. I have enjoyed deerhunting than most people I know. To see a deer while hunting is GREAT. To get a shot at a deer is the GOAL. To kill a nice deer with a bow is a BONUS. I love to hunt with my shotgun but my bow is what keeps me going. Sometimes I take both to the woods.

You'll love it. I haven't killed alot of deer with a bow. But the rush you get get when you do get one close for a shot and then make the shot is alot better than a gun to me. IMO
