Fish id?

looks like a light phase green sunfish. i count 10 dorsal spines and 3 anal spines. also the faint black patch on the 2nd dorsal. they can have the brown red eye coloration as well. usually the red eyes on a rock bass or warmouth is during the spawn.

rock bass likes current but greenies like slack water like warmouth.

thats a nice specimen for either but id lay a filet knife to it. green sunfish are like teenage boys, aggressive and likes to try to screw everything. they can ruin a small lake or pond.

Green sunfish get that big ?

I dont think people realize how big and heavy rock bass can get. Lots of 2 pounders out there. We catch lots in 1.5 pound and 11" range. In late october, they get thick!

yes those are rock bass 5-7 anal fin spines, well, except for one and its a flier sunfish. the three most misidentified of the sunfishes especially in the fall color phase.

I used to love fly fishing and catching those in walland. That's not originallywhat I fished for there but there was so many and a lot of fun on a fly rod that's what I always went there for to have a good fun "catching" day

Which one isnt a rockbass. Not disputing, just wanting to
Learn
probably my mistake. top left looks like some fliers i have caught in reelfoot and south around pickwick but they were a lot smaller. i havent seen a rock bass with that much black around the anal fins before.

here is a late fall green sunfish that one could mistake for a rock bass.
