Anyone have any luck fishing in the wind?

I've heard that when it's really windy, they waves churn up the waters and stir up the bottom. Which makes the water murkier/dingier. Which supposedly makes for tougher fishing conditions.

What do you think?

Professional bass fishermen say "the wind is your friend". It blows the stuff the baitfish eat and the bass follow the bait. Plus it covers up boat noise. Only problem is it makes the boat harder to control. I like wind when bass fishing. I hate it when crappie or bream fishing.

It's good for stirring baitfish food which brings the baitfish which brings the bigger fish, and the ripples are great for fishing a jig under a bobber where you let the water do the jigging, great for bream and crappie. But as far as casting and keeping your bait/boat in the right spot, it's a pain in the rear. And I hate it for sight fishing as well. Generally I hate gusting wind for anything, fishing, hunting, whatever, but it has its perks

Spurhunter and Catman, I've also heard that theory as well. It makes sense.

My dad went fishing at Marco Island, FL and did some saltwater fishing. He said it was really windy one day, and they didn't catch much of anything that day. Mainly due to the wind stiring up the sand on the bottom...which makes it harder for the fish to see the lure.

So I went fishing yesterday at Edmund Orgill, and thought of that. Only caught one crappie, and it was a small one. I saw bream, but they wouldn't bite.

I thought fish can tell where and what size an object is in the water via their lateral lines... How else would you catch them in muddy water?

Bream fishing with an ultralight in this wind sucks.

I have managed 13, 13 and 11 this week in the cooler though. :D

The wind is NOT my friend. Agreed about wind-blown banks being great for bass. However, for my style of catfishing in the Chickamauga Dam tailwaters, I frequently depend upon drifting downstream with the current.

If however, the wind is blowing hard upstream, it dramatically affects my drift. If in fact, the wind is blowing harder upstream than the current is flowing downstream, it can completely kill a drift. It will even make it difficult to anchor properly.

So again, for my style of catfishing the wind (especially a South wind) is NOT my friend.

Wind is a GREAT thing for shallow water bass fishing! I absolutely love a windy day especially if its bright and sunny!!!
It can make an immediate difference in the fishing when conditions go from dead calm to windy pretty quick, like flipping a switch! I love it!
