Guy who has done a good job on my shoulder mounts did a Euro mount for my kill last year that is my biggest kill ever. He asked if I wanted to keep it on the skull or mount the horns on a plastic skull that is more durable, so that is what I did. Pick it up and it wasn't as impressive as I remembered. It then hit me that the horns were turned in so much that the main beam points are only a few inches from each other when in fact they were originally about 10 inches from each other. Is this fixable??

I have never did the plastic skulls but should be fixable from how I understand they work.

My understanding is the antlers are removed from the skull plate and then reattached to the plastic skull. Measurements should be taken at all spots to ensure they are put back correctly so not sure how he missed by 10".

I'm curious why he didn't do an actual euro?

I had two decent 8 points did one year . My Taxidermist said one of my bucks skull just fell apart so he had to put the antlers on a plastic skull . He uses those bugs to clean the skull so it wasn't any kind of chemical, the deer may have had something wrong with him. ( Giles Co. ).

There is a screw into the antlers from underneath the skull plate. Loosen those screws (or remove if necessary), adjust the antlers, and retighten.

Here is one I did this week with mountain mikes ( record keeper) super easy. I'm going back and doing several bigger racks that I just cut scull plate off.

Yes, it's fixable. I've done several. The guys above are correct that it's basically loosening the antler screw(s) and turning to match a photo as best as possible. You will have to unscrew the top plate from the bottom portion of the plastic skull to get to the antler screws.

I do have a tip after working on one that I couldn't get just right. You may have to trim the base below the pedicle(s) with a saw to get the angle(s) just right if you are super picky about making it match the "live" rack. Good luck!

The kit I used you don't cut horns off , you trim skull plate , screw-in , and use epoxy to fill in joints and sculpt. Don't use the paint in the kit. Get flat white spray paint .
