Just picked up my first compound bow two months ago. I love it and I have been shooting it like crazy. I have now lost a vein on two arrows and since I would like to make this a lifelong hobby, I'd like to get a fletching jig and learn how to replace the veins myself. After checking out some jigs, specifically this one made by Bohning http://www.basspro.com/Bohning-Fletchin ... _THUMBNAIL , I noticed that the jigs come in "straight" and "right helical"
I've done the "straight vs right helical" Google search and everyone seems to lean toward right helical for hunting because of arrow spin, stability, accuracy, etc. I also seen there is "left helical" and "right helical" is one for left handed shooters and the other right handed? I've read a bit this morning and the information is a little mixed. I am looking for a little help determining which would be best for me. So far I have only shot targets at 20,30, and 40 yards with silk field tips. I will be using fixed broadheads for hunting, probably Muzzy MX3s. The veins currently on the arrows from the factory appear to be straight. Would I experience any clearance issues with left or right helical? I'd rather not spend 50 bucks on a right helical clamp just to need a left helical instead. I do understand that sometimes this can only be determined with testing.
Here's more info on my setup
PSE Stinger
55 lbs draw
Carbon Express Piledriver Hunter 250 arrows
Predator vanes
Whisker biscuit arrow rest
Right handed shooter
Thanks in advance for any information!!
